Steve's strong corporate background, with over thirty years of financial experience, includes employment as a corporate controller and treasurer for medium sized family corporations.
He has an extensive understanding of financial statement presentation, and is often the Firm's resource for many of our clients' more complex and sensitive accounting issues. Nowhere is Steve's accounting background more valuable than in servicing our many contractor clients. He is outspoken about his admiration for the construction industry where all resources and creative efforts are directed at building something where there was nothing. The industry can be very demanding, and Steve can handle the tight time frames and "do it now" pace of this intense industry. His dry sense of humor can even add some fun to the process. Steve's solid reputation with bonding agents and bankers serves our clients well. A comprehensive understanding of the bonding formula, bidding and job costing, burden rates, prevailing wage issues, construction related insurance issues, and complex industry related sales tax issues all form an integral part of quality service. Steve is active in the Education Committee of the Keystone Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC).
Steve also enjoys working with closely held companies in developing strategic plans. His formal education at Lehigh University and planning sessions with the American Management Association gives Steve the tools to facilitate a planning retreat. Our experience has shown that a specific understanding of your business, coupled with Steve's wide breadth of experience, can often result in a more targeted planning approach. Unlike the one-size fits all planning that is so often marketed to businesses, we believe planning needs to be focused on your needs. The result should be a more usable plan for the money with less of your time spent on the planning process.
We are often involved in preparing projections of future results for either a new business, or for new acquisitions for our existing clients. Steve enjoys this technically challenging work. His management and business experience allows him to work with our clients and create realistic projections. This can serve as the centerpiece of a well designed business plan, and can be invaluable in obtaining needed capital or financing to complete the project.
Internally, Steve is a key member of our Accounting and Consulting Division, which provides accounting, auditing and some tax services to our clients. Steve also oversees our quality review program, and is responsible for keeping the firm current on changes in generally accepted accounting principles and auditing standards.
Steve is active in the community and serves on the board of directors of a number of non-profit organizations. Steve is an amateur sailor, an open water scuba diver and likes to get away to any tropical location. He and his wife, Mary Jo, reside in Landisville.
